It is believed that renaissance artist and engineer Bernardo Buontalenti first created gelato using snow from the Tuscan hills that surrounded his home town of Firenze, Italy. His creation was presented to the court of Francesco de’ Medici in 1565. It was received so well that when Francesco’s daughter Catherine left to marry Henry II of France, she was sure to bring some with her. Italians have been enjoying gelato and sorbetto ever since.
More than four centuries later, Angelato Foods, LLC was founded and firenze artisan gelato and sorbetto were born. Our passion for the art and science of frozen confections is inspired by the renaissance itself, and by other great Italian values: zest for life and love of family.
